Main tourist places in Kannur district

Kannur is one of the north district of Kerala state. Kannur district is bounded by Kozhicode Wayanad Kasaragod and Coorg (Karnataka stste). it's most beautiful place in Kerala state. Kannur fort

The fort is located around 3 Km from Kannur town. It was originally built by Don Francisco De Almeida, a Portuguese Admiral. This fort is known as St Angelo Fort. The Dutch took the fort from the Portuguese in the 17th century and sold it to Ali Raja. Later britishers took this fort. Many filmmakers uses this fort for their films.

Aralam Wildlife Sanctuary

Aralam wildlife sanctuary is about 35 Km from Thalassery which is the nearest railway station and 60 Km away from Kannur city. It is spread over 55 sq km in area located on the western slopes of the Western Ghats, the Aralam sanctuary is the northern most wildlife sanctuary of Kerala. It was established in 1984. Aralam is one of the main trekking area in Kannur. A variety of animals and birds usually found in the Western Ghats are seen here. Different kinds of deer, boar, elephant, and bison are quite common. Leopard, jungle cat and various types of squirrels are sighted.
Aralam sanctuary is a west coast tropical evergreen forest and a west coast tropical semi evergreen forest.
